Thistalkwillfocus on the Linux graphics space, providing an overview
ofthecurrentstate of affairs, and the author's efforts to improve
them.We'llcover,in-depth, attempts to redesign the kernel's
graphicssubsystemtoimprove user's suspend/resume, panic, and
graphicsconfigurationexperience.This will include an overview of
thecurrentpiecesof the graphics puzzle (e.g. kernel DRM, fb layer,
vgacon,Xserver,etc.), how they fit together (or not), and what can
bedonetomake them play together nicely (like centralizing important
functionsinkernelspace), with an eye toward the DRM modesetting
tree,whichincludessignificant new kernel functionality and userspace
APIstotakeadvantage of it. Particular attention will be paid to
initialgraphicsdiscoveryand configuration, modesetting, and memory
management

bestknownforhis role as Linux platform maintainer for SGI's Altix
lineofItaniumbased computers, in which he contributed significantly
toLinuxscalabilityefforts, APIs for driver optimization, and new
userspaceinterfacestoallow user level drivers like X to be easily
portedtoexoticplatforms.
Jessecurrentlyworksat Intel's Open source Technology Center (OTC),
wherehecollaborateswith other OTC developers on developing software
anddriversforIntel's graphics chips and platform architecture.
